Webinárjaink angoltanárok számára

Everyday classroom activities can provide meaningful authentic opportunities for students to regularly listen to and speak English. However, monolingual classes where the teacher and the students share the same first language pose special problems in this regard. In this setting, teachers have to tackle a very strong, natural tendency for students to speak their first language. After all, this has been their language environment for their whole lives. Who are we to drag them out of it? Persuading students to speak only English can be no small challenge, but happily, there are a variety of ways to tackle it and this webinar will help you learn how to create an environment that encourages as much English speaking as possible.

Trainer:

Luca Biercsak is a practising teacher with over 16 years of experience. She has taught in a wide variety of contexts from individual coaching to large group sessions, from general to business English, from young learners to adults, from mainstream education to the British Council. She has also taught over 20 nationalities from Asia to the Middle East.

She is currently teaching English at a local language school in Edinburgh, Scotland and she is also the tutor on our B2 e-learning course. In addition to teaching, she has also been involved in language examinations and teacher training since 2012. In her position as teacher trainer, materials writer and language examiner, she has worked closely with two international language examination awarding bodies, delivering workshops, webinars and presentations online and face-to- face.

In this webinar freelance teacher trainers Anna Csiky and Vanja Smoje-Glavaski will be giving you some ideas on how to give students feedback on their speaking and sensitively correct their errors considering a number of factors. The aim is to examine the kind of feedback that motivates learners and helps them improve their speaking performance (not only) in preparation for oral exams. As before, this will be a practical and interactive webinar.

Trainers:

Vanja Smoje-Glavaski is a freelance English teacher and a teacher trainer. She works as a CELTA trainer at International House Budapest and as a teacher at the English Center in Szentendre. Anna Csíky is a freelance English teacher and teacher trainer. She is currently training on a course run jointly by the British Council and International House London, and teaching only privately, focusing on a single VIP student - baby Bence was born in August 2018.

In their second webinar of the season freelance teacher trainers Anna Csiky and Vanja Smoje-Glavaski will share some tips for giving learners feedback on their writing. In this practical and interactive session they will take you through a few tasks that focus on how to correct (and not correct) students’ writing, especially (but not exclusively) in preparation for exams.

In this webinar, we'll first be looking at how to select what vocab items are worth focusing on, using a Euroexam Level B2 Reading paper as our lesson material.  This will help us establish some important principles regarding what vocabulary is the most useful to teach our students and why. Then we'll demo and describe some of our favourite activities to activate new vocabulary in the same lesson, between lessons, and in the next lesson.

In this webinar we are going to share some of our favourite grammar practice activities that we use in our classes. There is going to be a strong emphasis on practice that reflects real life language use as well as broadening the range of structures students use. We will be prioritizing fluency, successful communication and the use of varied structures rather than just focusing on accuracy and making no mistakes.
