Teachers' Reading & Discussion Group

Read, Reflect, Engage
Do you ever wonder if you are doing the right thing in the classroom? Or indeed what precisely the “right thing” is? The Budapest Training Reading & Discussion Group for teachers is designed to facilitate this, encouraging you to reflect on four key issues in learning and teaching in order to draw conclusions for what works well in your teaching context.

This semester, the four issues, which are also highly relevant if you are considering doing the Cambridge DELTA, will be:

  • Do students actually learn what we teach them? What might be the reasons when they do and when... well, they just don't?

  • What are the key considerations for giving feedback? Does correction even work?

  • Should we always use a syllabus that is given to us to follow e.g. a coursebook? Are there any other options?

  • What are the key roles of the teacher and learners? How do we develop autonomy? Is there a danger of us teachers becoming redundant?
group

We will have four 120-minute synchronous online sessions spread across Autumn. For each session:

  • you are given reading material and / or videos to watch in advance of a session. You will also be given some questions to help direct your reading;
  • you read, reflect and take notes based on the above;
  • we discuss our thoughts in groups in the next input session, exploring the issues that have come up and, most importantly, looking at practical ideas and implications.

We are offering this course for free as part of our mission to encourage reflective practice in experienced teachers.
